It is not surprising to find that gardeners love to cook or that they love beautiful objects and travel. We have a wonderful range of books. Books that are useful and informative, books that are historical and interesting, books about the great gardens of the world, books about making tiny but exquisite courtyard gardens, flamboyant and exotic dry land gardens big and beautiful traditional gardens.

Add to that a marvelous selection of cookbooks and lifestyle books.

We also have a range of unique and very beautiful cards and wonderful botanic diaries and notebooks.

vegie patch
How to grow your own food
Alan Buckingham, with Australian consultant Jennifer Wilkinson
Published by DK, H/B $49.95

This is not just a beautiful book but extremely comprehensive and blessedly has been re–edited to suit the Southern hemisphere. The book is diarised with planting, picking and harvesting and pest management with lots of great sensible holistic ways to manage pests. The comprehensive photographs allow for easy plant identification. Especially useful they carefully identify weeds always a problem for the novice gardener. The index so often an afterthought is brilliant and makes it a breeze to quickly find anything you might be looking for and the ’trouble shooter’ section is equally useful.
Recently cooking at Rockford Wines while their regular chefs Ali Cribb and Michael Voumard took a break the bounty from their garden at autumn harvest was astonishing. Cooking with tree onions that are a little like shallots I was delighted to find a reference and wonderful image for Egyptian Tree Onions p239, in fact I am planning to grow some.
Vegie Patch is a class act with excellent paper and photography and really the bible for growing your own food. AO
